Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 10, 2026
Fogo ("Fogo," "we," "us") helps you understand your spending and know where you stand with your money. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read, not skimmed — if anything is unclear, email privacy@askfogo.com.
The short version
- We connect to your bank in read-only mode through Plaid. Fogo never sees or stores your bank username or password.
- We never sell your data, and we never use your financial data to train AI models.
- Your data is encrypted, isolated to your account, and you can export or permanently delete it at any time.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and, if you use Google sign-in, your name and profile photo from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
Financial data. If you connect a bank or card, our data-access provider (Plaid) gives us a read-only feed of your accounts, balances, and transactions. You enter your bank credentials directly with Plaid — they are never transmitted to or stored by Fogo. See Plaid's end-user privacy policy.
Content you create. Budgets, goals, notes, review reflections, and messages you send to Fogo's AI assistant.
Usage data. We use a privacy-focused analytics tool (PostHog) to understand how the product is used. Session recordings, where enabled, mask input fields and text so account values are not captured.
Information collected automatically. Fogo records basic request details (page, browser type, approximate location, and the network a visit came from) to tell people from automated traffic. To identify the network, Fogo looks up the visit's address with public internet directories (DNS); it stores only a shortened address and the network's name, never the full IP, and deletes these records after 90 days.
How we use your information
- To operate the app: categorize transactions, run reviews, and generate coaching.
- To power the AI assistant. Relevant context is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate responses. This data is not used to train their models, and it is not used to train ours.
- To secure accounts, prevent abuse, and provide support.
- To improve the product in aggregate.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers who help us run Fogo, under contracts that limit them to that purpose — for example Plaid (bank data access), Anthropic (AI responses), our cloud hosting and database providers, and analytics. We may disclose information if required by law. If Fogo is ever involved in a merger or acquisition, we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
How we protect your data
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and each user's financial data is isolated to their own account. Access is restricted and logged. No system is perfectly secure, but we design Fogo so that the most sensitive secret — your bank login — never touches our servers at all.
Your choices and rights
- Access & export. You can export your data from your account settings.
- Disconnect. You can unlink any bank connection at any time, which stops new data from flowing in.
- Deletion. You can permanently delete your account and its data from settings. Deletion is real — we remove your personal and financial data rather than merely deactivating the account.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as under GDPR or the CCPA). To exercise them, email privacy@askfogo.com.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal and financial data. We may retain limited, non-identifying records where required for legal, security, or accounting reasons.
Children
Fogo is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
